This morning, as I was taking the boys to school, I heard Lisa and Eric, the morning show hosts on KLOVE, talking about Read Across America Day. Apparently, Eric was going to be reading Dr. Seuss stories to children at their schools today, and they were encouraging the listeners to call to thank the person or people who taught them how to read.
Wow...talk about something that I take for granted!
I spent some time thinking about literacy...about how fortunate I am to have parents who cared about my learning...about how fortunate I am to have parents. Yes, I spoke to my parents on the phone and thanked them.
As I was cooking dinner tonight, the boys sat around the table "reading" the new books that they received from Grandma Murray yesterday. They read books earlier with their "book pens". Tonight, after the pirate bath, we read about Curious George and his pancake making abilities, and, before bed, the big boys asked if they could read books in their room.
I do love to read to them! My very favorite children's books include The Complete Tales of Beatrix Potter, A Mother for Choco, and You're All My Favorites.
I hope my boys always love to read as much as they do today!
